Whalers Brewing Company: South Kingstown, RI

My friend Matisse introduced me to Whalers back in September. Even though I live about a 45-minute drive away, we have met up there twice since! Whalers is great because of their beer, atmosphere and the fact that they are dog friendly. I’m excited to visit again once the world is successfully unplugged and plugged back in again, virus-free.

Their two flagship beers are Rise and East Coast IPA. These two are always on tap along with a seasonal beer and a few limited weekly specials. If I recall correctly, their seasonal special in September was something pumpkin-spiced, but don’t take my word for it!

One thing I love about them is that they don’t offer food. Instead, they encourage people to bring their own or order delivery. They even have a page of recommendations. As someone who prefers to save money on eating out (so that I can afford more beer, duh!) I love the idea of packing a home made meal to go with a sampler flight.

Whalers has an awesome atmosphere and plenty of typical pub games such as corn hole. The entire ceiling of the main seating area is decorated in bright fairy lights! They also have some booths that are a little more private and perfect for bringing your furry companions.

The day that we decided to bring our dogs, there were at least ten other dogs there. The boys got a lot of love and attention from both staff and guests. Of course, they had to embarrass us by screaming whenever one of us left to get more beers or use the bathroom. Oh and it’s not just dogs that are welcome, children can visit with their parents until 6 PM.

The feature photo is of a Whalers beer taken at a different bar in Providence, Rhode Island.
