The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty: Book Review

The Last Anniversary, The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty: Book Review, The Travel Bug Bite

I just finished The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty and I really enjoyed it. I picked up Little Fires Everywhere right after and despite the dramatic start, I am not as excited about it as I was about The Last Anniversary. It was a nice surprise after the disappointing read that was Three Wishes.

Since Three Wishes has similar reviews to The Last Anniversary on Goodreads, I came in with low expectations. It was a great surprise for me to fall in love with the story and the characters from the very beginning. This was a book that kept me, an early bird, staying up late to read!

“Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one she let get away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was to propose, she broke his heart. A year later he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie’s house on Scribbly Gum Island — home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.”

Goodreads

I loved it!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

There were so many aspects of this story that I was curious about. Sophie’s love life, the other relationships in the story, the unsolved mystery and basically everything else. There were so many interesting twists and background details that kept me curious.

I loved how powerful and unique all the female characters were. Both the younger and older characters were full of spunk and I wanted to be their friend. The men, on the other hand, took a back burner and could have been a little more developed. But hey, it’s nice to focus on women for a change.

While I predicted one of the twists a few chapters in advance, I was not disappointed. It was one of those times you feel smart instead of feeling like it was all too simple. There were also plenty of other twists that I didn’t see coming and was delighted to uncover. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I have a feeling that this one will stay in my memory for a long time. It definitely made an impression!
