Christmas is a stressful time for people who are into a more eco-friendly lifestyle. It is hard for us to try and find Eco-Friendly Christmas gifts for friends and family that they will love that won’t harm the environment. We are also worried that we will get something that is awesome but will end up polluting the planet. As a fellow aspiring zero-waster, I have these stresses as I try to live a greener lifestyle. The following gifts are examples of things I would love to receive or give this Christmas season.

1. Kombucha Brewing Kit

It’s a stereotype that people who are into all things zero-waste are also into kombucha… but many of them are. In fact, I only know two people who actively dislike kombucha so this is a great gift for just about anyone as long as they have the space. There are various kits out there but I personally picked this one:

Urban Kitchen Kit – $29.99 on Amazon

I like this kit because it’s clean and simple, perfect for a zero-waste home. It has amazing reviews and it happens to be one of the cheaper options to boot! This kit makes one gallon of kombucha. I bought this for myself because I also deserve some self-gifted eco-friendly Christmas gifts 😉

Get Kombucha Kit – $44.95

For something a little fancier, check out Get Kombucha Store. This kit makes up to five gallons and comes with all sorts of extra bits and pieces. You can explore more flavors with this kit and have more guidance. There are more materials here, but they do seem to all be recyclable, however I am not certain.

2. Kindle: Eco-Friendly Christmas Gifts

Kindles are not the first thing most people think of in terms of eco-friendly and zero-waste. But think about it… books are made out of paper, they are bulky and even if you buy them used like I do, shipping them is bad for the planet. If books had eyes, mine would be glaring at me right now, but it’s true. I’m not about to Marie Kondo my collection, but I do hope to take advantage of my Kindle if I decide to get more books.

Kindle Oasis – $269.99

Book lovers rejoice, this new Kindle is beautiful, but not exactly cheap! But if you are a big reader, it is worth the price tag. It is a little cheaper if you chose the ad-supported version. It also boasts an adjustable warm light.

Older Model Kindle – $89

This is the kindle I have and it is way more affordable. It may not be the newest shiniest model, but it works great and has a ridiculously amazing battery life. It’s always more eco-friendly to buy the older and preferably used model. Browse Facebook Marketplace or see if any of your friends or family are about to upgrade and see if they would sell it to you in-person to avoid the carbon footprint associated with shipping. It’s not common to shop second hand gifts, but if your friend is eco-conscious they would be totally fine accepting pre-owned eco-friendly Christmas gifts!

3. Grow Kits

Get your minds out of the gutter, I am talking about PG-13 herbs and mushrooms. Unless you are in Colorado, that is, where you can legally grow anything you want. While those would be fun Christmas presents and projects for the right kind of person, today I’m talking about plants that are legal nationwide.

Back to the Roots Organic Mushroom Grow Kit – $33.92

I have personally tested and loved this kit! I got a pack of three and two of them yielded two batches of mushrooms while the third got us about three and a half. You can read my full review of Back to the Roots here. Take my word for it, if you know someone who loves mushrooms and growing their own food, they will LOVE this.

9 Herb Window Garden – Indoor Organic Herb Growing Kit – $34.99

Mushrooms don’t float everyone’s boat. But I know few people who can resist freshly grown herbs to take their home-cooked meals to a whole new level! I have a bit of an all-or-nothing mentality, so if I were to buy herbs for my window garden, I would want them ALL.

Hydroponics Growing System – $79

We all know someone with a black thumb. No, that was not a typo due to the Stroop effect. While some people have green thumbs, others have black thumbs. I seem to have a one green and one black since some plants thrive while others wither away. If you have this hydroponics growing system, you can have two hands full of black thumbs yet this hydroponics system would keep it alive!

4. Zero-Waste Kits: Eco-Friendly Christmas Gifts

There are so many zero-waste products out there. It can get a little overwhelming to figure out what you need and when to buy it. If you’re just starting out or want to avoid buying everything separately, an all-in-one kit is the way to go!

Nipaqui 17 PCS Zero Waste Kitchen Kit – $40.99

This 17 piece kit includes; 3 beeswax food wrap 1 each (14×14, 11×11, 8×8”), zero waste reusable produce bags 1 each (12×16, 10×12, 8×10”), 4 zip locking bags 2 each (8.5×4.7, 8.5×7”), and 4 stainless steel straws plus brush and travel bag.

5. SodaStream

I HATE drinking water and I know many other people who hate it too. Water is so bland and unexciting to drink. SodaStream makes it better! Even though cans and glass bottles are recyclable, it is ideal to not use them at all. So SodaStream has been a game changer for me. Not only am I drinking more water, but I’m saving money on all things fizzy and sending less to the landfill or recycling facilities.

You can buy a SodaStream on Amazon for $109. In the spirit of all things green, shop around for a used on on Facebook Marketplace or even via Amazon’s used products program.

Summary: Eco-Friendly Christmas Gifts

These eco-friendly Christmas gifts are great for people of all levels of eco-consciousness. The holidays are a wonderful time but often lead to extra trash headed for the landfill. Let’s make this holiday season a little greener as we whoop it up (any Real Housewives of OC fans out there?)
