Growing up in Europe I heard a lot of jokes made about moonshine. This led me to have quite the negative opinion about this misunderstood beverage. I remember trying a homemade batch that a friend made and it was okay. The second time I tried it was at a farmers market and it was pretty good. Finally, I tried it at White Dog Distillery and it was absolutely fantastic!
White Dog Distilling is located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. We discovered it via a GroupOn for a tasting that was ridiculously cheap. The irresistible price had us making the drive. The first time we tried to go, they happened to be closed and we were kicking ourselves for not checking their opening times. Don’t be like us and check before you make a 40 minute drive. They are only open a few hours a day, Thursdays – Sundays.
Unlike their limited opening hours, their menu is diverse and picking a flight was difficult. They offer whiskey, puppy bourbon, limoncello, moonshine, rum and gin. They also have delicious cocktails that the bartenders spend a lot of time carefully creating so that they look as good as they taste.
Before you make your way over here, take a good look at the directions on their website. We just followed Google Maps and ended up parking in a deserted part of the large warehouse complex. It was quite a walk through a post-apocalyptic space that made us question if we were in the right place. Finally, we reached crazy metal sculptures. This hipster-vibe side of the warehouses is where all the fun businesses are, including White Dog!
