Elmhurst 1925: Delicious Alternative Milks

Before I cut dairy out of my life, I was obsessed with cheese. However, I was never one of those people who enjoyed a glass of cows milk and I could barely stomach yogurt. This changed when I switched to a plant-based diet. Today, I’ll sneak over to the fridge to sip on some almond milk. Unfortunately, almond milk is the least eco-friendly alternative milk. So I wanted to try some alternatives with Elmhurst.

Elmhurst offers various choices of plant-based milks including cashew, oat, almond, hazelnut, walnut and *drum roll* hemp! I have only had hemp milk on a few occasions but has always been my favorite. I also enjoyed oat and rice mill, but hemp simply tasted the best in my coffee. It’s hard to find in regular stores for an affordable price, though. That’s when I decided to try out Elmhurst.

“Henry Schwartz, owner of the last dairy in New York City, had a fortuitous meeting with Dr. Cheryl Mitchell, who had spent decades developing HydroRelease – a unique method for using water to separate and draw the nutrients from nuts, grains, and seeds to produce a naturally smooth, creamy beverage without any added emulsifiers or thickeners. Inspired by Dr. Cheryl, Henry made the shocking move to close his 90-year-old dairy, start anew, and give its name – Elmhurst – to a new innovative line of plant milks.”

Although Elmhurst products cost more than my go-to almond milk at Trader Joe’s, I decided to give it a try. After all, Elmhurst uses a unique method of creating their milks that makes them a lot more nutritious and healthy. The product that I was most excited about was the Milked Hemp Barista Edition! It has minimal ingredients and froths just like real milk so it is perfect for your morning coffee.

Cost and Shipping

The company offers free domestic shipping and I got my order within just a few business days. Due to the free shipping, all products are sold in two or more packs. I used Honey to find a discount coupon so I got an amazing deal on the 10 cartons of milk below. Don’t be scared to order in bulk since they don’t have to be refrigerated until they are opened! So far I have tried the Milked Oats Chocolate and the Golden-Milk Hemp Creamer and I couldn’t be happier. My hopes are that they can offer a more sustainable form of packaging in the future!
