Still Missing by Chevy Stevens: Book Review

I finished Still Missing by Chevy Stevens yesterday. Despite being extremely busy and in somewhat of a reading rut, I blew through this book. My first experience with the author was mixed. I found Those Girls by Chevy Stevens unnecessarily disturbing and I still don’t know if I enjoyed reading it. Still Missing, on the other hand, is also disturbing but I found it interesting, unique and tastefully written despite the horrific events that occur.

Still Missing by Chevy Stevens: Synopsis

“On the day she was abducted, Annie O’Sullivan, a 32-year-old realtor, had three goals – sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she’s about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.

Still Missing interweaves the year Annie spent as the captive of a psychopath in a remote mountain cabin, which unfold through sessions with her psychiatrist, with a second narrative following the events after her escape—her struggle to piece her shattered life back together and the ongoing police investigation into the identity of her captor.

Still Missing is a shocking, visceral, brutal and beautifully crafted novel.”

What I Loved

While a psychopath kidnapping a woman and keeping her in a cabin isn’t the most original scenario, this book was one of a kind. It was really well-written, seemed realistic despite the crazy things that were happening and I liked that the horrific things were written in a way that were bearable to read. That was the difference between Still Missing and Those Girls. At least in my opinion! I also liked the unexpected pace of the book right up until the end.

What I Didn’t Love

I did feel like the ending was a little rushed after a long build up. But then when you think about movies, it’s usually like that too. Sometimes I was confused about the protagonists reactions to various situations. Then again, who am I to comment on how someone who has gone through all this would act like? I haven’t gone through any of these things so I can only speculate how I would act.

Summary: Still Missing by Chevy Stevens

Still Missing by Chevy Stevens is not for the faint of heart. Personally, I really enjoyed reading the book and I had so much trouble putting it down. Despite my discomfort with Those Girls, I now must read all of Chevy Steven’s books. People don’t seem to agree with me and the public didn’t seem to enjoy Still Missing. It has 3.98 stars on Goodreads and people have mixed reviews. I suggest that you pick up a copy and decide for yourselves!
