A great way to learn more about Newport, Rhode Island is on a cruise. There are many companies that offer tours in the area. You can pick from dinner cruises, sunset sails and child-friendly tours with live lobsters. The full list of tours is available here. I highly recommend checking out the Gansett Cruises, in particular the Mimosa one!
We went on the Mimosa cruise on June 29th this past summer. We paid $26 per person and then we almost missed it! Do not underestimate Newport traffic and limited parking situation. We ran onto the boat a minute before it left and we were so lucky to have made it, because the tour was awesome!
As the name implies, this cruise included a free mimosa in the price of the ticket! To our great surprise, they also offered other drinks for just $5 per drink which is a great price for Newport! We got to enjoy several drinks each on this 90 minute tour, including Whalers Risa APA!
The staff were great and we got to learn a lot about Newport. One of the highlights was seeing a mansion that was built half as a castle and half as a normal house! We also got to learn a lot about the boats int he harbor and a few local light houses. Luckily, it was a beautiful day and we also got a tan sitting on the top deck of the boat.
Now that summer is coming back around, we hope to take another cruise with Gansett Cruises. They offer afternoon and evening cruises too, as well as private charters for special events.
If you’re looking for something a little more exciting. You should also check out this Sky and Sea Gansett Newport Harbor Package form Newport Helicopter Tours. For just $90 per person, you can enjoy a birds-eye view of the area followed by a cruise. It is rare to find any sort of helicopter tour for $90, let alone one that includes a cruise for that price! This is definitely next on our bucket list.
