Nautical decor items can get a bad rap because they can be kitschy. But I am moving to a house by the beach and I don’t care what anyone says, I will have some nautical decor items all over the place! Whether you are decorating a beach house, a house that you wish was a beach house or just dream-designing an imaginary house – these items are fun to consider. While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out my article on the health benefits of living by the beach! Even looking at a photo of the beach has health benefits so bring on the beach art.
Disclaimer: All items in this post are unsponsored! They say to write what you know and I have been on a nautical decor shopping spree so bear with this ocean-themed article.
1. Octopus Tea Cup Holder
So I may be biased, because octopuses (not octopi, Google it) are my favorite animal. But I have always wanted either large octopus tea cup or candle holder. Turns out that these beautiful decorative items are expensive! We even saw one through a window of what may have been Taylor Swift’s house in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. I found an affordable one and begged my husband to buy it for my birthday. It is adorable and currently on sale for $64.95. You can buy it here.
Bella Coastal Decor is a nautical decorator’s dream store.

2. Rope Mirror – Nautical Decor Items
Rope mirrors can definitely be kitschy, but I feel like theres a time and place for them! I can definitely see a mirror like this hanging in my bathroom. Or maybe a hallway? They have large ones that cost a pretty penny. Then there’s this Home Depot one that’s way more affordable for $30! While searching for rope mirrors, I also found an octopus mirror! So obviously, I couldn’t resists including it even though it’s $150.
3. Light House Bird Feeder
Before you pity my husband, Isaac, who has to put up with my obsession with nautical decor items… he’s just as bad as I am. We were driving by a beach house and he screeched to a halt when he saw a light house bird feeder. He pointed to it excitedly and yelled WE NEED ONE OF THOSE! I agree completely, so I found this cool one on Amazon. It’s not too pricy at $36 plus it lights up, is solar powered and the light revolves!
4. Anchor Door Knocker
I have always dreamed of having a cool door knocker but have never had one! New house, new me and new awesome door knocker! While I’m tempted by larger slightly obnoxious knockers, I think I’ll settle for this reasonably sized one for $9.99. The same store, Handcrafted Model Ships, offers other colors too to suit every door and color scheme!

5. Beach Chair Candle Holders
Fine, these ARE kitschy. They are as lame as nautical decor items are. However, I find them adorably and I got some for free from a lady who also sold me some ocean-themed paintings! Apparently these are mostly bought as wedding favors. I still have no idea where I’ll put mine, but it’ll be awesome and cute. This particular kind only costs $2.22 but they do have other designs on Etsy and in other stores!

6. Sunset Beach Paintings
There are so many fun places to buy sunset beach paintings! It is even more fun to make your own. I recommend finding a class near you. Even if you are not an artist, these classes will make sure you leave with a great piece of art. Isaac and I did one at Create Color Art Studio where we painted our dogs and they look semi-professional because we had a LOT of help! If you’re not into DIY then check out Etsy for something unique and beautiful!
7. Ocean-Themed Lamps
So I actually found a great set of stained glass lighthouse lamps on Marketplace. The seller turned out to know Isaac’s father and even knew him as a kid! The bad news is, these lamps are one of a kind. The good news is that there are more ocean-themed lamps than you could possibly imagine. I searched on Wayfair and found the following gems, but there are so many other options! These are all $100-250 but you can obviously find cheaper ones elsewhere! I picked these to show you because of the impressive selection. My personal favorite is the coral one!
8. Anchor Throw
There are various nautical items that you could put on a throw. I picked anchors because they are the symbol of Rhode Island, which makes it slightly less tacky. I’m not even a big throw person but I have dogs now and throws protect my sofas! So since I need one, I might as well get a cute anchor one! Here is my favorite one from Amazon. The gray fluffy one is $14 and can also be a blanket in colder weather.
9. Waves Rug
I’m a sucker for anything with waves! I love this beach waves rug so much that I might be buying it right after I finish this article. It can be a welcome mat, or a bathroom mat. Again, I remind you of the dogs, that have dirty paws which means I need a whole bunch in my house. Right? This one is currently on sale and costs $28 on Dresslilly.

10. Ocean Nightlight Projector
Okay, I was originally going to show you some cute ocean-themed nightlights. Because who likes to stub their toes or blind themselves with their phone flashlight while peeing at night? I’ll let you watch the video instead of telling you about it, but it’s totally awesome. You can buy it on various websites, for around $30 including this slightly questionable one. I recommend looking for one with reviews.
Summary – Nautical Decor Items
Living by the beach is awesome! You don’t have to live near water to celebrate the ocean by filling your home with nautical decor items. People might stare, judge and comment. But a home is where YOU spend most of your time. Especially these days… so decorate the way you like! Feel free to tell me if I missed any fun ocean-themed stuff in the comment section below.
