Violet by S.J.I. Holliday: Book Review

Violet, Violet by S.J.I. Holliday: Book Review, The Travel Bug Bite

Violet by S.J.I. Holliday is a unique book that grabbed my attention from page one. Not just because it was incredibly dark and mysterious – there was a gross perverted Russian man involved. I loved that the book was set on a trip in various countries, most of which I have been to! It was so much fun reliving my experiences in these countries and it was clear that the author had actually been to them.

Synopsis – Violet by S.J.I. Holliday

“When two strangers end up sharing a cabin on the Trans-Siberian Express, an intense friendship develops, one that can only have one ending … a nerve-shattering psychological thriller from bestselling author SJI Holliday

Carrie’s best friend has an accident and can no longer make the round-the-world trip they’d planned together, so Carrie decides to go it alone.

Violet is also travelling alone, after splitting up with her boyfriend in Thailand. She is also desperate for a ticket on the Trans-Siberian Express, but there is nothing available.

When the two women meet in a Beijing Hotel, Carrie makes the impulsive decision to invite Violet to take her best friend’s place.

Thrown together in a strange country, and the cramped cabin of the train, the women soon form a bond. But as the journey continues, through Mongolia and into Russia, things start to unravel – because one of these women is not who she claims to be…

A tense and twisted psychological thriller about obsession, manipulation and toxic friendships, Violet also reminds us that there’s a reason why mother told us not to talk to strangers…”

What I Loved

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The originality of the story was by far my favorite thing. I have traveled the world and met people along the way, so this story really spoke to me. It was also exciting, fast-paced and full of twists! Both Violet and Carrie had mysterious pasts and it wasn’t always clear if everything was as it seemed. I had a hard time putting down the book – every chapter had me wanting to find out what would happen next.

What I Didn’t Love

It wasn’t long enough! Fine, that’s not a legitimate concern, but I wish it had been a little slower and at least twice as long. Preferably with more country hopping. Otherwise, I honestly have zero complaints. I will be buying up all of this author’s books ASAP. She also inspired me to incorporate my travels into my fictional stories! And if they are a tenth as good as Violet by S.J.I. Holliday, I’ll consider myself a success.

I cannot stop raving about this book. The characters, the travel, the pace, the twists – this is an amazing book! Grab a copy of Violet by S.J.I. Holliday (sometimes goes by Susi Holliday) on Amazon using this link. Check out her other books below:
