If you have ever sold an item on Facebook Marketplace, you are familiar with the the annoying situations that often come up. Smooth transactions with fewer than 10 back-and-forth messages are incredibly rare – usually one of these situations happens instead. Read on to cringe with me!
1. The One Who Never Answers

*crickets*
This is one of the most common conversations I have for things I am selling. I answer their question, and they never answer back. WHY? Can’t they at least say “Never mind, I’m no longer interested?” I don’t understand why someone would go out of their way to message you, only to never answer back.
2. The One Who Disappears

*more crickets*
Perhaps even worse than not answering at all is the person who disappears in the middle of your conversation and never messages you again. You’re so excited, you finally found a buyer, and they actually seem interested! Then they disappear right at the moment of truth. Ugh.
3. The One Who Want it for Free

I understand that some people price their items higher so that they can get a reasonable price, but it’s especially annoying when someone offers a ridiculously price. Maybe 10% lower is acceptable, but I’ve had people offer less than half. Because of this, I like to label my items as “OBO” if I am willing to negotiate. Otherwise, I consider the price fixed.
4. The One Who Drags it Out
This one takes the gold for most common situation. This is when I’m trying to buy something, rather than sell.

*two weeks later*

AHHHHH! I just don’t understand why people answer in such tiny fragments and drag the conversation out. Why not just be clear the first time? Having said that, the extremely rare unicorn who is the perfect Marketplace seller does appear occasionally.
5. The One Who Does it Perfectly

I love when this happens! They give the address and time in the very first message. More people need to be like this. I certainly always try to do this when I am selling.
So, when you’re selling on Facebook Marketplace, be like Joe.
