There is a waterfall in West Warwick! When I moved to this town, I was excited about the central RI location and affordable houses. A beautiful waterfall and a scenic River Walk were a great bonus! The River Walk also offers a view of the Royal Mills Riverpoint Apartments. But I’ll get to those in a minute. It can be a little complicated to figure out how to get here off of just Google, so let start by telling you exactly how to get to the waterfall in West Warwick, Rhode Island.

How to Get to the Waterfall in West Warwick

I guess I should tell you how we found this waterfall in the first place. People often ask us how my husband, Isaac and I find cool places to visit. The answer is ridiculously simple: we Google an area that we are interested in, we find a green spot with some specks or sliver of blue and we go explore. It didn’t look like much, but it was within walking distance from our house, so off we went.

If you’re going to walk, I definitely recommend to walk by American Legion Post 2. There is a WW1 memorial with a tank and several statues. From there you should walk towards the West Warwick Police-Youth Services and you’ll already get a cool view of the Pawtuxet River. If you’re driving, go straight to the Police Station and park there. This is the only easy way to enter this dead-end walkway. It looks like people climb up and down from other areas, but if you want to stick to a path and avoid sprained ankles, this is the way to go.

Royal Mills at Riverpoint

At the end of the walkway, which is only around 700 meters or half a mile long, you will get teasingly close to the Royal Mills at Riverpoint. This complex hasa fascinating history that you can read about here. However, here’s a snippet about it:

“The complex is located along the banks of the South Branch of the Pawtuxet River in the village of River Point. The site was first used for industrial purposes by the Greene Manufacturing Company, which built a wooden structure in 1809 and two later stone mills. In 1885, the site was purchased by B.B.& R.”

The Waterfall in West Warwick

The walkway is quite overgrown, not well-maintained, and there’s some graffiti and sometimes trash. However, it is still a beautiful spot to walk, run, or take the dogs. There are never too many people here, if any, so it’s a peaceful getaway. It is also a pretty great place go foraging! I found quite a few mushrooms here. No, it’s not common for mushroom pickers to give up their secret spots, but I’ll sacrifice it if it brings more people here. It is beautiful and should be enjoyed by everyone!
