CAUSEBOX and FabFitFun ads have been all up in my face while I have been MIA from the blog. Isaac and I are currently living in a hotel after selling our house. We are technically homeless with the hopes of moving into a new house soon. We are juggling work, freelance writing and Etsy, which is tough. To perk myself up a bit and to give me writing content, I did splurge on two awesome subscription boxes! I have had my eye on CAUSEBOX for a while now, but recently I started seeing ads for FabFitFun as well. I decided to just buy both and compare them! They are on their way, but I can already tell you a few things about them.
What Are They?
They are boxes full of goodies, marketed as lifestyle items, shipped four times a year. The items vary but include makeup, jewelry, bags, home décor, etc. I have already picked out the items in my CAUSEBOX and they include a bathrobe, a reusable tea infuser bottle, a basic grow set and others. I have yet to customize my FabFitFun box but the advertisements show a bathrobe, beautiful cups, eyeshadow and a light-up makeup mirror.
The difference between seasonal and annual subscriptions is that annual is cheaper and you have more customization perks as a member. Both claim to give you $200+ of goods every season. I’ll be looking into that claim once I receive my products because it seems too good to be true.
I may be making things up here, but CAUSEBOX is one of the original subscription boxes. I have seen adds for it for years and years before everyone else, including me, decided to create one. What makes them stand out, even today, is that all the products they advertise are good. What do I mean by that? Let me quote their website:

FabFitFun doesn’t advertise that their products are as conscious as CAUSEBOX, but they very well might be. This is another factor that I will be exploring once I receive the box. FabFitFun focuses on happiness and well-being. They also focus on the fact that they are an affordable lifestyle box, and they are, in fact, cheaper than CAUSEBOX. But is this at the cost of quality and/or ethics? We’ll find out soon enough!

My Experience So Far
So I told you that I ordered both boxes, but what I didn’t tell you is that I got CAUSEBOX first. In fact, I ordered it in September because I was dying to get their mint bathrobe. I was a little annoyed by the lack of info on shipping since I was planning on moving. However, I knew that I would set up mail forwarding and I assumed that they would give me a heads-up before shipping, like my other subscription does. Lo and behold, my moving date was sprung on me unexpectedly and suddenly my CAUSEBOX was on its way to my old house. The icing on the cake is that FedEx can’t forward and the address can’t be changed by the customer if the cheapest shipping option is used.
Now, I don’t fault CAUSEBOX for sending the box to the address that I requested. I should have thought it through better. However, when I tried to contact them for help, there were crickets. According to their Facebook, they respond within 24-48 hours, however due to COVID, responses may take 72 hours. They don’t have a phone number and they are just as slow on Facebook as they are by email.
Long Response Time
I emailed them exactly five minutes after I got the shipping notification and I called FedEx every day since to try and change the address. Five days later, CAUSEBOX finally got back to me full of apologies, some story about how other customers have managed to change their addresses by calling FedEx (been there, tried that.) They also offered no discounts or any sort of mention of a replacement box or even a single item in the box. As someone who owns a business, I was disappointed because no matter what happens, I have offered my customers discounts and refunds even if mistakes happened on their end.
So now my only hope to get my $200+ of items that I paid $50 for is to contact the people who bought my house and beg them to hold the box for me. This is beyond awkward to say the least. Plus, if I had moved further away, it wouldn’t even be possible. So, if I’m being honest, it was this that led me to buy FabFitFun. I’m going to wait a long time for their box, since it’s the Winter one. However, I am already impressed with their website for giving me info on when it will be shipped, etc. They are also responsive on Facebook and even Facebook comments. This may be because they aren’t as popular as CAUSEBOX yet, but it’s nice either way.
Edit: CASUSEBOX agreed to send me a new box! After the initial long wait they were quick to get back to me when I followed up.
I have two amazing boxes full of cool stuff on their way. I may or may not recover one, but I will get both winter boxes in the upcoming weeks or months. After seeing the ads for these products, I am super excited to see what all the fuss is about. I am not a fancy person who buys expensive items, which is what I find so appealing about these boxes.
There is no way I’d spend $80 on a luxurious bathrobe. But one is included as one of eight items in both boxes! I also broke my mirror (bad luck, I know) so I was shopping for a light-up one. Turns out there’s one in the FabFitFun box! Will it save me money in the long run? Of course not, you can’t save money by spending it on stuff you don’t need. But will it be worth the money and make my life a little more sparkly? Heck yeah!
