Vision boards, also known as dream boards, are a great tool for goal settings, self-improvement and more. Having a space full of clear images of your goals, dreams or things that remind you of your purpose can do wonders for your psyche. It may seem silly or even juvenile to sit down, cut up magazines and paste the images that speak to you on a board. However, research shows that having a vision board can actually help you be happier as well as reach your goals and stick to your New Year’s Resolutions.
What is a Vision Board
A vision board is a collage of images, pictures, and affirmations of one’s dreams and desires, designed to serve as a source of inspiration and motivation. There are so many ways to create one and the purposes of the images can vary. If you have specific goals, you can find images that reflect them for your board. Alternatively, you can flip through a magazine and cut out things that make you happy or bring you joy. The bottom line is, there is no one way to create a vision board.
How to Create a Vision Board
Creating a vision board can be as creative as you want it to be. You can create one by cutting out pictures from a magazine, printing them, using stickers or do everything virtually. After moving to a smaller house where I don’t have one space that I spend the most time in, I opted for a virtual board. I used Canva to create a pretty lock-screen for my phone with just six simple images. In past years I’ve used large KT boards and filled them with super specific goals and dreams. As I’ve already mentioned, both are great ways to approach a vision board!
Digital Vision Board
There is no right or wrong way to create a vision board and doing it physically is a lot of fun. However, I do recommend that you also create a virtual one. I’m not assuming that everyone is as phone obsessed as I am, but it’s 2021 (YAY) and most people carry around a smart phone. I decided to create a lock-screen vision board because I look at my phone often and it’s a great reminder of what I want to accomplish. It even helps me spend less time on social media.
I created my board two days ago and I’m obsessed. Just looking at the images makes me smile and motivates me. I may still create a physical board, plus I might make an additional digital board as a screensaver for my laptop. However, this phone one may be the most genius thing I’ve ever done. Since we get so used to things quickly, I may even change it up every month or so to keep things fresh. If you use Canva, it literally just takes seconds. Plus, having limited space helps you focus on the most important things that you want to focus on.
Why Create a Vision Board
Wait really? I haven’t convinced you yet that creating a vision board will change your life? SIGH. Okay… lett me give you some stats.
Creating a sacred space that displays what you want actually does bring it to life. What we focus on expands. When you create a vision board and place it in a space where you see it often, you essentially end up doing short visualization exercises throughout the day.
Visualization is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do. According to the popular book The Secret, “The law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualizing, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe.”
