Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask: Generation Clay

Yesterday I finally tried the Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask by Generation Clay. I got this mask through my FabFitFun subscription; it was a paid add-on in my Winter Box. If I’m being completely honest, I already had a LOT of face masks and didn’t need another. However, I really wanted a clay mask, and this one happened to be my favorite color, purple.

Okay I didn’t JUST base it on a pretty color. I also checked the reviews on Amazon, which is my go-to because Amazon reviewers can be pretty brutal. Not only did I find out that 247 people gave it a five-star review, but it is also made by BLAQ, a brand that I love. Please note that all Amazon links in this article are affiliate.

About Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask

This clay mask costs $28 for 100g/ 3.97oz. Generation Clay also has two other clay face masks. I am curious about trying both their Charcoal and Himalayan Pink masks in the future!

My Experience

I took notes while applying this clay face mask to give you the full scoop! When I squeezed the tube, the first thing I noticed was the fantastic smell and the thick feel of the clay. You could feel the quality and fullness of the mask immediately.

I began applying the mask generously to my face, and I may have overdone it. I’d recommend that you start with less and add more if necessary. It was effortless to apply even with just my finger, although if I used a mask application brush, it would have been even better.

The mask started burning almost immediately. It startled me at first, but it went away as it dried. Since I applied such a thick coat, it took almost 10 minutes to dry completely. Then I left it on for ten more before washing it away. When it is dry, it gets very tight, and it highlights your pores and imperfections. This is probably not the best mask for a romantic couple’s night or a sleepover photo op. Plus, it gets so tight that it becomes hard to speak.

Afterwards

It took a while to wash the mask off; it was thick and penetrated every single pore on my face. My pores were visibly clear afterwards. I hadn’t been taking great care of my face, so I was impressed. It worked better than most of my other face masks when it comes to cleaning my pores.

The one downside is that it dried out my face. I didn’t notice right away, but an hour later, when I was brushing my teeth, I noticed that my skin was extremely flakey. I’d recommend exfoliating before you do this mask and apply moisturizer afterwards. My go-to night time moisturizer is Pureheals Propolis 80 Sleeping Mask by Nature Village. I’ll be reviewing it in the future!

Beforehand

Before you apply the Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask, exfoliate your face! If you want to skip this step, that’s fine, but you should wash your face beforehand. All face masks should be applied to a clean face. My go-to face wash is Teami Daily Facial Cleanser with green tea extract. I will be reviewing this one in the near future as well.

Think Dirty Rating

I recently discovered and downloaded the Think Dirty app. The app helps you shop clean by telling you about the safety of the ingredients in your products. This was actually the first product I tried scanning, and the results made me smile. The Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask is, in fact, clean! However, it is rated rather harshly on Think Dirty. I gave it four stars out of five stars, half a star more than it is rated in the app.

Summary Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask

The Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask

did a great job cleaning my pores and left my skin feeling great but on the dry side. There was some burning sensation during the application, but it wasn’t unbearable or too unpleasant. Personally, when I feel a burn like this, I assume that something good is happening.

If you are super sensitive, though, consider applying the mask to a small area of your face first to see how it goes. Then, if all is good, apply it to your entire face. All in all, I enjoyed the face mask, and I will be using it again. I am also tempted to purchase the two other masks by Generation Clay: Charcoal and Himalayan Pink.
