Today, Google inspired me to write about women-led restaurants. The toughest thing about supporting women by going to female-owned restaurants is figuring out which local eateries are actually owned or run by women. That is where RestaurantHER comes in to save the day!

About RestaurantHER

Grubhub and Seamless sponsor RestaurantHER to help customers locate and visit women-led restaurants. According to their website, only 24% of women are chefs, fewer than 7% of head-chefs are women, and to make things worse, female chefs earn 28% less in base pay than their male counterparts.

The way RestaurantHER works is by letting you search via Grubhub or Seamless to find restaurants in your area that women lead. They also have a nifty map of the USA with these businesses listed. You can plug in your zip code, and you will see the restaurants listed. I’m hoping that this isn’t 100% accurate because my area only has McDonald’s listed…

The Best Women-Led Restaurants

If you want to visit some of the top women-led restaurants in the USA and Canada, check out this list on Open Table. All of these restaurants all led by women as chefs, managers, or owners. From running kitchens to managing multiple venues, these exceptional women are leaving their mark on the hospitality industry.

Summary

There is no need for me to say that women can do anything that men can because that’s obvious. But somehow, we still find ourselves at the bottom of the food chain. For this reason, supporting women-owned businesses can make a big difference. Not only to those women who run the restaurants you love, but also other women who hope to break into the restaurant field that men currently dominate (for now.)
