Tavern By The Sea is a great spot located in the historic village of Wickford, my new favorite spot in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. We discovered the Tavern By The Sea by coincidence, while waiting for a spot to open up at Gooseneck Vineyards for a wine tasting. If we had more time, we would have tried their food too but we only had abut 15 minutes to enjoy this amazing place!

About Tavern By The Sea

Tavern By The Sea overlooks the Wickford Harbor in a historical building, reminiscent of an old framed boathouse. You can not only see the harbor but also enjoy the peaceful cove, home to white swans and ducks swimming along with their babies! The tavern takes full advantage of this area by providing extra seating on the grass to enjoy the awesome view. The deck has views of the historic street as well as the boats coming and going.

What To Eat

The Tavern By The Sea offers your typical New England seafood. They have a great selection of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, entrees and salads. Plus they also have delicious soups including the classic New England clam chowder! They even offer two types of grilled pizza, if you’re not into seafood.

Unfortunately, their selection for vegans and vegetarians is minimal. However, it is possible to throw something together and you can always ask the staff to hold the cheese. Although I would definitely love to see them add a Beyond Burger to their menu – maybe they would if there was enough demand.

Why did I get so excited about this place even though I didn’t eat anything? They offer Aperol Spritz! Well, and the view. But mostly the cocktail. For those who don’t know, a Spritz Veneziano or Aperol Spritz, also called just Spritz, is an Italian wine-based cocktail, commonly served as an aperitif in Northeast Italy. It consists of prosecco, Aperol and soda water.

It is a super popular summer cocktail in Europe and I was craving it after seeing all my friends back home post it on their Instagram stories. I wasn’t able to find it anywhere near me and finally made it myself because I gave up on finding it in local bars. So imagine my excitement to finally discover it! Turns out that other bars in Wickford also offer this great cocktail… but Tavern By The Sea makes it perfectly for $11 and I will be coming back for more!

They also offer other cocktails, of course, and they all look absolutely beautiful. Plus, they have compostable straws, which is a big plus since I’m big on zero-waste. They also offer draft beers and have a selection of wines as well. But seriously… try their Aperol Spritz! Remember to stir it first and then enjoy the perfect combination of sweet and tart, ice-cold to maximize it’s refreshment factor.

Summary: Tavern By The Sea

The Tavern By The Sea is an amazing place that serves affordable food that I’m sure tastes as good as it looks. They also serve great drinks and offer an amazing view. They aren’t just “by the sea,” they are practically in it. The tavern is surrounded by water on 3 of 4 sides and you can pick the harbor or the cove to enjoy.
