Isaac and I went whale & dolphin watching in Cape May, New Jersey around two years ago. When it showed up in my memories, I was shocked that I haven’t already written about it. Better late than never, right? Cape May is known for its whale and dolphin spotting! The Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center offers cruises that go to all the well known places to see whales, dolphins and various birds. On our particular tour we only got to see dolphins, but it was an amazing experience.
About the Tours
Their most common tour, Around Cape May Whale, Dolphin & Bird Watch, starts at 10 AM and they typically last about two and a half hours. Tickets cost $40 for adults, $30 for children between 7 and 12, $12 for an extra child of the same age and children under 6 are free if accompanied by a full fare paying adult. They offer complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages
They also have other tours that vary in price, duration and route. These include the 3 hour Whale, Bird & Dolphin Watch, 2 hour Sunset Dolphin Cruise and the 12-hour Offshore Marine Life & Pelagic Bird Trip. Whale and dolphin watching is a fun activity that can be a romantic date, fun outing with friends and an education way to spend time with kids. When you go on these tours, keep in mind that it will be colder than you think – bring layers, waterproof jackets and good shoes so that you can stand outside as much as possible. While they usually offer binocular rentals, you can usually buy a nice pair for only about twice as much. Next time we do something like this we will definitely bundle up and bring our own gear.
