Plant City opened in Providence, Rhode Island on June 14th, 2019. It has an extremely wide selection of vegan food featuring Italian, Mexican and a smoothie bar. They also sell retail vegan products and have an amazing bar full of cruelty-free alcoholic beverages and more!
“PLANT CITY is the world’s first plant-based food hall + Marketplace, created with world-renowned Chef, Matthew Kenney! 4 restaurants featuring elevated cuisine (3 sit down w/full bars), a bakery, coffee bar, store and class + event space.”
Plant City
Since Providence isn’t too close to where we live, we have only been to Plant City twice! Once on a random occasion and once for their Valentine’s Day special. Both experiences were amazing if not on the expensive side. We can’t wait to celebrate the end of the quarantine by coming back and exploring the Mexican restaurant.
Our first visit was in late summer and we visited the Italian restaurant (as well as raided the store for gourmet vegan cheese.) We enjoyed delicious meals and great beer. We were too stuffed to get dessert but we did buy some cookies to go! It looked as good as it tasted.
Valentine’s Day Special
On V-Day we wanted to splurge a little so we contacted Plant City. Turns out they had a special pop-up offering a 7-course meal for $79 per person. Just to clarify, we rarely eat out and have never spent $79 even on both of us including alcohol. But we YOLOed and went for it, even splurging on the drink add-on. This gave us three drinks especially paired with our menu.
The total price including tip was beyond anything we’ve ever spent in a restaurant, but it was worth the once-in-a-lifetime experience. All the food was delicious and we savored every bite. Like any fancy restaurant, the food portions all seemed tiny. Isaac was starting to grumble about feeling hungry after. But by the time dessert came, we were so stuffed we could barely finish!
Anyway, I definitely recommend Plant City as a regular restaurant as well as their special events. I don’t know if we’ll be at their next Valentine’s special because of the price, but I don’t regret going this year!
I love plant city! It’s both a blessing and a curse that we don’t love close, because we would be broke!
